My media habits are influenced by my family, as well as my friends. My mom has worked for the mayor for the past 8 or 9 years so she's really into politics. She always used to talk politics or whatever was on the news when we would talk to I was always caught up on current events. My friends from school, on the other hand, talk more about sports so I'm also up to date on all current scores and things like that. The best aspect of my media habits are that I watch the news so I relatively know what's going on in the world, which is always good stuff to say in a conversation if you want to sound smart. The worst aspect of my media habits are that often stay up late watching various sports games and shows or watch these shows when I should be doing homework. A few steps that I can take to improve my media consumption are try to watch less t.v. and definitely read the newspaper more to stay up to date on current events.

I agree with you that not only are you influenced by what your generation and friends media habits are at the moment, but also your family's. If your family is very passionate about certain topics, in your case, politics, then of course that influences you and you want to gain more knowledge about it.

Sportscenter is my morning coffee. They should make west coast games earlier so I don't go to sleep at 1 in the morning. I definitely feel you on that.

I could find just about any excuse to not be doing what I am supposed to be doing and that usually means my school-related work and studies. Sports really does dominate my life but what can I say, I love it. I can't wait for the Roger Clemens stuff to begin being over with. Hearing about that crap has been ruining Sportscenter, most notably the 600p edition, for weeks now. Tomorrow could be the first day in the rest of our lives, though I know that this is not the last we will hear about steroids and performance enhancing drugs in sports. Hopefully, it will be the last such case that has garnered this sort of attention and profile.

I agree with you, I think that most people are not only influenced by their parents, but also by their friends. I mean it is only normal for people to like, enjoy, or to be interested in what their friends are too. So, a lot of my friends are also interested in celebrity gossip, which is my favorite, so a lot of our conversations are about this aspect of media.
